A transplant to Alaska from Colorado, I have made the Last Frontier my home. Married for 24 years to Nathan, we have 2 adult children, 2 teens, and 2 grandchildren. When not teaching classes, I can usually be found at a hockey rink or having some great experiences in Alaska and look forward to many more on our way to becoming "sourdoughs."
I had always been interested in yoga but had been taught that it was not appropriate for Christians. I was also very self-conscious of my body size. After losing 100 lbs, I began running to keep the weight off and as motivation, entered into races. Following my first half-marathon, my dear friend suggested we go to a hot yoga class to loosen up and aid recovery. I was hooked.
After a few years, I wanted to learn the ins and outs of the poses to better my form and set out to find out if it really was against biblical teaching. I found Christians Do Yoga and its community that challenged what I had been led to believe. I found how I can use yoga as a Christian as part of my quiet time with God and honor Him with my practice. I am now a registered instructor with the Christian Yoga Association.
My focus is on removing the barriers that keep individuals from the benefits of yoga. The mental barrier that others may have from their belief, or that they are not the right size or shape. By showing beginners how props can be used to achieve all the poses without guilt. As well as showing males, particularly teen athletes, that they would benefit from yoga and help their body’s longevity in their sport.
I hope to provide a wonderful experience for my students and Thank You for allowing me to guide your practice.
